Building Food Security and Adaptive Resilience to Climate Change for Mountain Communities

Year: 2020-2021

Project Duration:  7 Months

Objective: 

Efficient use of water resources to enhance socio economic and environmental well-being of disadvantaged communities with gender equity.

  1. Community stewardship in sustainable use of water for replenishment benefits to man and nature
  2. Develop synergistic linkages between local authorities and local communities for climate compatible development.

Result:

  • Construction of a total of 2646 RFT paved channel to irrigate 257 hectares of land  provided with reliable source of water for agriculture activities
  • 141.6 billion liter replenishes water to community and nature.
  • Increased community coherence and inclusive and participatory decision making systems with inclusion of women, youth and marginalized groups in building societal resilience.
  • Sustainable public works for Disaster risk reduction
  • Increased resilience of target communities to absorb climate shocks and protect environment assets for ecosystem restoration

Major Activities undertaken:

  • Formation of VO
  • Share project information and build consensus between stakeholders on project deliverables, Community Organization formation, build capacity of Community Organization (CO)
  • Develop project technical feasibility and design, construction of piped irrigation scheme
  • Improved water availability for productive use
  • 3 Meetings with community and relevant govt department to develop consensus on project activities in target school.
  • Signing of terms of partnership (TOP) with Community Organization.
  • Monitoring visits by MGPO staff, relevant govt department and CO.
  • Survey of project input, outcomes and final report compilation.
  • Project completion & handing over project to CO.
